Introducing Babies to Solids
Service Description
Parenthood is exciting, nerve-wracking, and intimidating all at once, and nothing sums that up more than offering your baby solid foods. While at this stage of life (commonly around 6 months old) your baby's main and best source of nourishment still is breast milk or formula, now is the time to begin introducing them to the variety of flavors, smells, textures, and colors that they will eventually be eating full-time. There are two main camps when it comes to feeding: spoon-fed (using purees) or baby-led weaning, where baby eats properly prepped foods as they come naturally. There are pros and cons to both, and I will support your decision on whichever method you choose to use with your baby (spoon-fed or baby-led, or a combo). In addition to recommendations on meeting nutritional needs for baby at this time, I will also provide education on: - Determining whether your child is ready to eat based on their personal developmental readiness - What foods are best to offer at which ages - How to offer foods safely - Understanding the differences between coughing, gagging, and choking - Introducing allergenic foods in a safe way - Addressing the root cause of eczema - Relieving constipation Depending on your knowledge, comfort level, and interest, I will seek to meet you where you are at in your journey so the information I present during our time is both new and valuable.
